Welcome!

I'm Gary Adelman, a former international circuit player and star player at Columbia University. I have been teaching tennis for 25 years and the Alexander Technique for 12 years. I am a certified Alexander Technique teacher, having completed a 3-year teacher training program in 1992. I have taught the Alexander Technique to college level tennis players at Princeton University (women's varsity) and Babson College (men's varsity). At both schools I was the assistant varsity tennis coach. I have also worked with national and world-ranked players at the Israeli Tennis Center in Ramat HaSharon, Israel including Anna Smashnova (WTA top 20) and Eyal Ehrlich (ATP top 100). Currently I am director of tennis and head professional at Berkshire West Athletic Club, Pittsfield, MA where I also teach the Alexander Technique.

What the heck is Alexander Technique?

The Alexander Technique, used for decades by actors and musicians to enhance their performances, focuses on the efficient and natural use of the body.
It enables the student to achieve a more harmonious relationship of the head, neck and torso.
More specifically, the Alexander Technique teaches free head balance, the lengthening of the spine and expansion of the entire torso.
These characteristics can be seen in the Sampras serve, the Agassi groundstrokes and the over-all fluid play of Roger Federer.

How can Alexander Technique help me play better tennis?

This site and all the included content will demonstrate specifically how to apply the principles of the Technique to improve the different areas of your game.
We will not only cover the principles of the Technique as they relate to the various parts of the game but also the common habits many players (even some good ones) fall into which result in inefficient use of their bodies.
Please feel free to read my articles, sign up for my newsletter and if possible come down to my clinics
